This 20 gallon planted tank has gone through a few different transformations over the years. I started the tank back in 2018 after I took down my 30 gallon paludarium, mainly as a tank to put my giant danio. I was originally trying to make it resemble a river, by having lots of rocks and some plants mixed in. Soon after I added my spiny eel and botia loach, which now live in my 30 gallon planted tank.
Then the tank went through a long stretch where it had a phytoplankton bloom, that I just left alone. I kind of thought it was cool having a green water tank, even though I couldn’t see anything into the tank. But I knew the fish didn’t care, and I knew there were copepods in the tank that were happy. Eventually I decided I wanted to see into the tank again, and got an Aquarium UV Sterilizer(Green Killing Machine).
Pretty quickly the water cleared up, and I decided I wanted to change this to a shrimp and small fish tank. So I transferred all my larger and shrimp eating fish to the 30 planted, and added a lot more plants to this tank. Right now it’s more of a swamp look, and the shrimp seem to love it. I’m hoping to clean it up a bit and do some better aquascaping in the future.
